Dryer Vent Cleaning

Dryer Vent CleaningWe have a lot of people who call in and ask about dryer vent cleaning and how and when they should have it cleaned. This article will hopefully provide enough information for homeowners to understand the process as well as the benefits of getting their clothes dryer vent cleaned.

Clothes Dryer Vent Fires

To start off, the leading cause of fires in the home is caused by lint buildup in the dryer vent. Over time the damp lint starts to accumulate on the inside of the dryer as well as the ventilation components, which exhaust the damp air out doors. As the lint gets thicker it drys out on the walls of the dryer ducts and becomes a fire hazard. Since many clothes dryers are powered by gas they use an open flame which can easily throw a spark, increasing the chance of a dryer vent fire. If you have an electric dryer, don’t assume you will be safe. The temperatures created by either a gas, or electric system is enough to start a fire.

Taking Longer for Clothes to Dry?

Most people are unaware that it’s the lint which builds up inside their dryer that is making it take longer for their clothes to dry. It is recommended by nearly all clothes dryer manufacturers to have it cleaned annually, especially if the dryer is used frequently. By having an annual dryer vent cleaning it will save on your energy bill, generally making it pay off each year in savings alone. The time it takes to dry your clothes will be shortened and will be an added convenience, the money saved on energy may be spent elsewhere, but most importantly, removing all the lint from inside the vents and the fire box of your clothes dryer will help prevent a lint fire in your home.

The Best Method to Clean Dryer Vents

Depending on the method that we use, we offer a variety of systems to clean your dry vent. We sometimes have to use an Air Snake that goes down into your vent to clean out all of the lint. In some cases, we have to disable some parts of the dryer to get in and clean it thoroughly. Most of the dryers that we come in contact with have a short enough Dryer vent system that we can use reversed air.

The Reversed Air method which is the most common method that we use in most cases is the preferred technique. This is also one of the most efficient ways of cleaning your dryer vent. In this process, we are able to use reversed air by turning on your dryer and going to the outside of your home where your dryer vent is located. From there we use a high pressured, truck mounted vacuum, provided we are able to get the truck close enough to your home’s clothes dryer exhaust vent. In the event that we are unable to get close enough to the home we will use our high powered portable vacuum. By doing this type of cleaning, we are able to extract nearly all of the lint out of your dryer system so that it is ready to run like new, with no messy residue left behind. Twin Cities Air Duct Cleaning Procedure

Duct Cleaning – RotoBrush Method

Price $249.95 Special $189.00

  • Step 1. – Our technicians first attach a high powered vacuum to the main trunk line leading to your furnace.
  • Step 2. – Next, they go to each branch line and use a tool called an air-wand. The air-wand uses highly compressed air to push all the debris down to the main trunk-lines where the vacuum hose is creating negative-pressure to draw all debris to our van mounted equipment.
  • Step 3. – Once they have completed the initial air sweep, an item called a Rotary-Brush with a reverse nozzle will be used. It will be inserted into the trunk line where the brush will rotate inside the air ducts. This rotating brush “scrubs” the walls clean, removing anything that is stuck on, or otherwise attached to the walls of the air ducts. Once the ductwork has been scrubbed clean, they continue on to Step 4 using compressed air to pull the dust and debris that was removed from the side walls of the trunk lines and any other debris which might have been knocked loose with the rotary brush, back out to the vacuum using Step 2 mentioned above.
  • Step 4. – When the technicians have completed the initial air sweep and “RotoBrushing” the walls of the duct work, they will go to the bottom of the furnace with a 25-ft rotary air-wand, also known as an air-snake, with a reverse nozzle. This creates a tornado effect in the duct work, removing all residue from the sides of the air ducts. This will pull any remaining dust and debris back to the vacuum. The vacuum is “pulling” while the air-wand is “pushing” and it does a very effective job on light dust, dirt and debris.

If it has been a while since your air ducts were cleaned, you should definitely consider using the Rotary Brush Method. Unlike many of our competitors, we brush all your air vents and we clean all return lines and supply lines within your household.
