Dryer vent cleaning is viewed by many homeowners as a necessity because of the lint that accumulates in the fire box and exhaust vents of clothes dryers. Lint comes from drying of clothes and it builds up when water is dried from the clothes. Lint builds up in the dyers and dryer venting which is harmful and could cause house fires. If a dryer vent blows effectively, much of the lint will be removed. However, shorter vents are capable of blowing efficiently than longer ones. It will clog the inner and lower parts of the filter which may make it hard to clean. One would think that they have removed all the lint by just cleaning the lint filter. This may not be the case because much of the lint remains under the filter and in the crevices of the filter trap. Dryer vent cleaning can be applied to clean dryers effectively to ensure full functioning of the dryer.

When drying clothes, one may realize that the clothes take a longer to dry than usual. At times, the clothes may not dry completely or may seem hotter than usual after drying. This shows that lint is building up in the dryers and could cause the dryer to malfunction. It is advisable to seek the services of a professional duct cleaning or dryer vent cleaning company to ensure effective running of the dryer. Sometimes the dryer may become hotter than usual which means there is an impending danger. If one notices a burnt smell int he dryer when it is running, it means that the dryer is not working properly. Clogging of the filter with lint could cause these problems and effective measures should be undertaken to curb the problem. If not so, the dryer could blow up and may cause incidents such as a fire.

It is important to make sure that the lint filter is properly cleaned and vacuum cleaning will not completely clean the filter. This is because vacuum attachments have less capability of separating lint from the duct. Physical agitation of the lint from the duct is necessary by use of dryer vent cleaning brush kit. This is a special brush that will ensure effective cleaning of the dryer. Another effective tool is the duct cleaning brush kit. It is an effective long bristle brush that ensures that the lint screen is completely clean. Dryer vents can be cleaned using a jet-snake. This a tool of compressed air that will remove lint from the vent by use of pressure.

While cleaning the dryer, one should clean the lint trap filter and clean the filter screen using a bristled brush. The housing cavity should also be cleaned using a flexible brush with a fiberglass handle. A home vacuum cleaner could be used to completely remove any lint inside the vacuum lint trap housing cavity. The dryer vent should be disconnected for efficient cleaning. However, cleaning the duct may be a tough job to many people. A professional dryer vent cleaner should be consulted for complicated dryers. The dryer hose also accumulates lint which sometimes passes the filter and should be cleaned. For efficient running of the dryer, it is advisable to consider dryer vent cleaning services from a professional company.

If it’s been a while since you’ve had your dryer vent cleaned, why not schedule it today? While you are at it, we can look at your furnace and air ducts to help you determine the best time for duct cleaning also.

As the temps start to dip around Minneapolis, once again it’s time to think about cleaning your furnace.

Minneapolis Furnace Cleaning – it’s that Time of Year Again!

It’s already the first of September, wow! Where did the summer go? Soon we will be cranking up the heat and watching our utility bills climb. Sorry, but if you live in the Minneapolis Twin Cities area, it is unavoidable. Getting your furnace cleaned is an excellent way to conserve energy and save money on those utility bills. When your furnace is dirty, you are burning fuel in an inefficient manner. In a sense, your hard earned cash is going right out the chimney. If you live in the Twin Cities, annual furnace cleaning is a necessity.

In Addition to Minneapolis Furnace Cleaning, What About That Air Filter?

A dirty air filter simply makes your furnace breathe harder. To over simplify, imagine wrapping a thick scarf around you nose and mouth. In much the same way, your furnace has to draw air through the pleated filter and dust, dirt and debris. Our technicians will help recommend how often you should change your filter. A single person, who doesn’t smoke and has no pets will be able to change their filter less than a family of four with pets.

In this post I will try to give an unbiased view regarding the pros and cons of duct cleaning. Having been involved in the duct cleaning industry for so many years it might be a little difficult though, due to the fact that I have heard so many positive reports.

Duct Cleaning, the Pros and Cons

First the Pros:

Source Removal – If you get rid of the “source”, you will get rid of the problem.

Clean Air – It only stands to reason; if your ducts are clean the furnace and air conditioner won’t blow it around your home.

Health Benefits – Ask any allergist, or allergy sufferer.

Very Affordable – For as little as $99 you could have all the air ducts in your home cleaned.
Fast and Efficient – With two duct cleaners, the process should take less than an hour for a typical home with just one furnace.

No Haggling Over Prices – Unlike other domestic services, duct cleaning should be easy to bid over the phone. Nowadays, most duct cleaning companies will give you a price quote over the phone.

Now the Cons:

Duct Cleaning Cost – How clean is “clean”? Duct cleaning prices range from $69 – $1,000. This creates a lot of confusion, because the typical homeowner can’t inspect the work.

Discount Duct Cleaning – Beware of any company offering $10 off, or $50 off. What is the real duct cleaning cost? Ask $10 off of what price?

Per Vent Pricing – Most homeowners are unaware that their home may have 15-30 vents. Even at $10 per vent, this ads up fast.

Duct Cleaning Scams – As in any business, duct cleaning companies will pop up from time to time and try to take advantage of unsuspecting homeowners.

Incomplete Cleaning Methods – Look for companies that will give you a “Whole House Price”. You should be able to provide basic information about your heating and cooling system over the phone and get a price quote. If the duct cleaning company wants to come out to your home to give you a bid, hang onto your wallet!

I hope this post has given you a little insight into the pros and cons of duct cleaning. Remember to always check with consumer watch-dog groups and do a little homework before you hire any contractor to do any type of work in your home. You might also want to read the article “20 Tips on Hiring a Duct Cleaner“, published on the CleanMyfurnace.com website. Our customers and leading allergists say ‘yes’, air duct cleaning does help. So why don’t we come out and say, “Duct cleaning will help your allergies.”? Well, because an outdated, 10 year old EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) report says duct cleaning won’t help.

Duct Cleaning Techniques Have Greatly Improved

Way back in 1997 the EPA did a study that down played the importance of duct cleaning. Many feel this was due in large part to the “air duct cleaning scams” that were being reported all across the Minneapolis area as well as the entire US. While the report was very thorough, duct cleaning techniques and equipment has changed. “Duct cleaners” were running around in station wagons and mini-vans with a shopvac, calling themselves “Indoor Air Quality Professionals.

Allergists Agree, Duct Cleaning Helps

Allergy sufferers don’t need to travel very far to learn the benefits of air duct cleaning. A short visit with their local allergy clinic and they discover that duct cleaning ranks high on the list of allergy cleaning or allergy proofing a house. They will also learn the importance of things like; like mattress cleaning, freezing pillows, allergy bedding, etc), Most people who suffer from allergies know there is no cure-all which will relieve all their symptoms. They understand that air duct cleaning is just one part of the allergy cleaning process.

Is Duct Cleaning Right in Your Situation?

According to your furnace manufacturer (yes, Trane, Bryant, Amana, Carrier, Lennox… yes, everyone of them!), your furnace should be cleaned and inspected yearly. If the manufacturers all recommend annual cleaning, it stands to reason that your ductwork, which supplies un-filtered air to the furnace and heated or cooled air to your home, should be cleaned too. Most homeowners understand the benefits of duct cleaning, even if purely from a “heating and air conditioning maintenance” standpoint. For about $200 or less, a qualified Twin Cities air duct cleaning company will thoroughly clean all your air duct work and will inspect your furnace and air conditioner for no additional charge! So, if you are troubled by allergies, what do you have to lose? Schedule to have your air ducts cleaned today. Who knows, your allergy problems just might improve!

Chimney Sweep & Liner Inspection

Price $99 Special $65*

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN and surrounding. – Your furnace chimney will be bushed and cleaned in much the same manner as a fireplace chimney would be cleaned. We use steel brushes to sweep the interior walls of the chimney, removing all debris by vacuuming with a truck mounted vacuum and using the high pressure air wand. Then, as needed and depending on age and type of fuel used, we will clean the drip tee and the vent connectors which connect your furnace and water heater to the main furnace stack.

Why Hiring Two Chimney Sweeps is Better

With two chimney sweeps, one cleaning the furnace chimney with the rotating steel brush and the other in the basement operating the vacuum, you will discover the entire chimney cleaning process is quick, thorough, efficient and CLEAN!!! We are very confident that, although we are working with soot, your Twin Cities home will be as clean or cleaner than when we arrived.

Duct Cleaning – RotoBrush Method

Price $249.95 Special $189.00

Step 1. – Our technicians first attach a high powered vacuum to the main trunk line leading to your furnace.

Step 2. – Next, they go to each branch line and use a tool called an air-wand. The air-wand uses highly compressed air to push all the debris down to the main trunk-lines where the vacuum hose is creating negative-pressure to draw all debris to our van mounted equipment.

Step 3. – Once they have completed the initial air sweep, an item called a Rotary-Brush with a reverse nozzle will be used. It will be inserted into the trunk line where the brush will rotate inside the air ducts. This rotating brush “scrubs” the walls clean, removing anything that is stuck on, or otherwise attached to the walls of the air ducts. Once the ductwork has been scrubbed clean, they continue on to Step 4 using compressed air to pull the dust and debris that was removed from the side walls of the trunk lines and any other debris which might have been knocked loose with the rotary brush, back out to the vacuum using Step 2 mentioned above.

Step 4. – When the technicians have completed the initial air sweep and “RotoBrushing” the walls of the duct work, they will go to the bottom of the furnace with a 25-ft rotary air-wand, also known as an air-snake, with a reverse nozzle. This creates a tornado effect in the duct work, removing all residue from the sides of the air ducts. This will pull any remaining dust and debris back to the vacuum. The vacuum is “pulling” while the air-wand is “pushing” and it does a very effective job on light dust, dirt and debris.

If it has been a while since your air ducts were cleaned, you should definitely consider using the Rotary Brush Method. Unlike many of our competitors, we brush all your air vents and we clean all return lines and supply lines within your household.
